History

 

During the 1930's, in the breeds native Hungary there was a requirement for a Vizsla with a protective weatherproof coat for work in water and rough Hungarian Vizslaconditions.  In order to oGerman Wirehaired Pointerbtain this a smooth haired Vizsla was mated with a  German Wire Haired Pointer, from this mating came  Hungarian Wire-haired Vizsla. The breed is stronger and more robust than the smooth haired Vizsla.  The robustness was gained from the German Wire Haired Pointer.   It is believed that subsequently bloodhound was introduced, additional inclusion of Irish SetterPUDELPOINTERHERTHA POINTERthe Irish Setter Bloodhoundand for hunting abilities  the Pudel Pointer and Herthal Pointer were also added.

 Douglas and Carol Appleton imported a pair of HWV into the UK in the 1980 which sadly never produced any puppies however  Sheila Gray and Anna Coombe imported another pair in the early 1990's and under the Shannamaya affix the first litter of HWV's were produced in the UK.
